| Posted: 01 Sep 2008 05:45 AM CDT ![]() It's Labor Day, America's vanilla scrubbed version of May Day. I always used to hate Labor Day as a kid, it only meant that the summer was over. And, except in places like Arizona, where we eat Thanksgiving dinner out on the patio beneath the ramada, it is pretty much the last hurrah of summer and the Barbecue Season. But there are some people who take Labor Day pretty seriously. In a few places in the rust belt, a couple dozen Union folks will gather for some type of ceremony. However, these unions still have a great deal of influence on our lives—and most of it is not in a good way. I have nothing at all against the idea of unions. If workers did not join together and stand up to employers from time to time, the historical evidence overwhelmingly proves they get screwed—just ask the indentured servants stocking the shelves at your local Wal-Mart.But the labor movement has followed the same natural evolutionary process that all good ideas do. They start as an ideology, turn into a movement, then become an organization, and finally devolve into a racket. Today, Big Labor is to the Democratic Party, what the Morally Righteous Butt Wipes are to the Republican Party. No matter how misguided, or offensive a politician may find them, they have no choice but to tout a few of their lines, and pass some unneeded, usually offensive, laws on their behalf. No Democrat is deeper into Big Labor's pocket than is Barack Obama. He is a sponsor and enthusiastic supporter of the Employee Free Choice Act. Like with all government euphemisms, you know if something is called "free choice" it has nothing to do with free anything. The Act would do away with secret ballots in determining whether the workers wished to join a union. The idea that any American would propose this is dumbfounding. Do away with the sanctity of private voting so employees can be openly badgered and bullied into signing a membership petition by union goons. But, the stewards of the public good feel it is necessary, because the ordinary worker is unable to understand what is in his or her best interest, seeing as how they spend their spare time guzzling beer, watching NASCAR and praying. So the federal government is gonna do away with the secret ballot and dispatch Union hacks to do some serious arm twisting—it's all for the worker's own good—and good for the union racket—which pours tons of money into the Democratic Party coffers. The power and influence of Big Labor is way out of synch with their actual presence in the economy. Only 7.5% of the private sector is unionized, 12% overall. Obviously the labor racket is in its final throes. They need government assistance in order to keep picking the pockets of Americans---and continuing their valiant efforts to remake the country into the kind of worker's paradise that is Detroit. So, just as they used to promote Jim Crow laws, Big Labor opposes guest worker programs (as did Barack Obama when, succumbing to Union pressure, he broke his promise to support a guest worker program as part of a bipartisan congressional comprehensive immigration plan) and seek legislative approval to dispense with the fundamental institution which democracy is based upon—the secret ballot. It's mind blowing. Just unbelievable. But I do hope everyone has a great Labor Day.And if anyone from the Gulf Coast is able to get through here—my thoughts and prayers are with you. ![]() ![]() P.S.--Some liberal knuckleheads are outdoing themselves in attempting to smear Sarah Palin--and it has to do with her gender. First, Alan Colmes suggested on his blog that her infant son, Trig, is disabled because Governor Palin failed to provide adequate prenatal care. After getting a truck load of shit, since this was just mean speculation based on no facts at all--Colmes took the post down. But there is a screenshot of this exciting non-expose here. As I mentioned before--CNN's John Roberts insinuated that Palin would be unable to give adequate care to her children if she was elected. Now, over at The Daily Kos, once again, they are off their meds. Today the Kossacks suggested (actually they stated it as fact and are calling it Babygate) that Governor Palin is not even the mother of Trig Palin--it is a big subterfuge--the Governor's sixteen year old daughter is the real mother--- perhaps the Palins lifted the idea from last year's Desperate Housewives plot line. The Daily Kos is the same group which banned liberal blogger Lee Stranahan for speculating on whether there might be something to the reports about John Edward's adulterous affair. And Stranahan is banned for life, they didn't reinstate him even after Edwards admitted most of the story, and no one, outside of Kosland, believes him on the rest anyway. The Daily Kos, is considered by liberals to be a mainstream source of important news and information. Tons of people read their stuff, and eat it up--and the real dismaying thing is that most of the readers are very politically motivated and actually vote. ~Becky |
