A Logical Critique of Bristol Palin's Pregnancy

Bristol Palin

a2 The Daily Kos has declared a death watch on the candidacy of Sarah Palin.

I am actually getting a bit tried of writing about Sarah Palin, but I am really sick of elitist educated fools attacking her---and I honestly would care, no matter her party or political ideology.

Fishing permit violations. A blue-collar husband who racked up a DUI citation as a 22-year-old. An unmarried teenage daughter who is pregnant. A sister involved in a nasty divorce (and by the way, if you would like to see what a joke the politically motivated Troopergate investigation is-- check out Pork Machine Attacks Sarah Palin).

palin family But Wow— that stuff sounds like the American family.

Sarah PalinRather than a death watch, this stuff in the end makes Sarah Palin more likeable to everyday Jane and Joe Six Pack--at least with the low-lifes I hang with. Unlike Joe Biden, Sarah Palin did not just come out of some blue collar neighborhood, she is living the life.

Barack Obama, always a classy and intelligent guy, said all this discussion about family, and particularly children, is off limits and totally irrelevant.

Democratic Gay Baiting This year we will not get the type of spectacle we did in 2004, when John Kerry and John Edwards repeatedly complimented Dick Cheney and his family for being so tolerant "of your LESBIAN daughter."

limbaugh But of course, Obama's admonition will not stop it—any more than McCain can stop assholes such as the Oxycontin Doughboy.

dancing baby The angle the critics seem to be taking is that Bristol Palin's pregnancy somehow makes her mother a hypocrite.

logic I am of the school of thought which advocates that every person be required to take a course in formal Logic. Then, maybe we could dispense with public debates about meaningless crap, and discuss the issues that really matter—like the clear ideological differences between the Obama-Biden and McCain-Palin tickets.

The argument is that Sarah Palin's religion, like most all religions, frowns on premarital sex and it is claimed that she has advocated abstinence sex education in the schools, which presumably Bristol Palin sat through.

abstinence sex education I personally think abstinence sex education is totally useless, and a waste of time and money. But the fact that Bristol Palin got pregnant does not prove, or tend to indicate in even the slightest way, that abstinence education is a crock or that Sarah Palin is a hypocrite.

The advocates of abstinence sex education do not claim that every child who undergoes their indoctrination will be faithful to the tenets taught in the course, anymore than there is a claim that every kid that sits through Algebra, will actually learn it.

It is possible abstinence education is highly effective, and Bristol Palin is the exception that proves the rule.

bored student It certainly does not in any way prove that Sarah Palin is wrong about the desirability or efficacy of abstinence education simply because her own daughter was one of the exceptions that fell through the cracks.

The argument is a logical fallacy.

stupid And presenting it does nothing but make the proponent look as stupid as they are.

P.S...

wonder woman
I have been periodically pointing out the sexism that is going on in the attacks on Sarah Palin ( reminiscent of the type of trash that plagued the Hillary Clinton campaign--though actually a bit more virulent and disturbing), as well as the reasons that women should seriously consider supporting Sarah Palin.

The ladies at Shakesville are closely tracking and documenting the growing misogynistic attacks on Sarah Palin. Check out: Sarah Palin Sexism Watch Nol 3, Sarah Palin Sexism Watch No. 4 and Sarah Palin Sexism Watch No. 5

There is also a very good record of sexist punches the Obama campaign and mainstream media throw at Sarah Palin at Hillbuzz.

The T-shirts are coming out, including this one:

palin sexism

I am not inclined to give the link to these items, but if any oink oinks stop by, and are going through Hillary Bashing withdrawals, I don't think the peddlers of this merchandise are terribly difficult to find.
